 We just had two varnish instances in load balancer setup die at the same
 time. varnishlog output showed lots and lots of these errors repeating at
 a very fast rate:

 as soon as I attached strace to the process all threads died with SIGABRT.
 Looking at munin logs it appears that varnish was using many more network
 connections than ever before (100-120, while the average is around 10,
 with no change in access pattern that we know off)
