Comment:

 I hate to do blameallocation, but it looks like either a hardware or a
 pthread implementation issue.

 The shared cond-var makes me suspect the pthread implementation more than
 hardware, but hardware issues with respect to atomic instructions would
 tilt any good pthread implementation.

 Whatever it is, I see nothing that I can correlate to deficiencies in the
 varnish source code at this point.
